PRAYAGRAJ, March 16 -- A man allegedly died by suicide on Saturday after a year-long marital dispute, which had kept him separated from his wife and three children, remained unresolved when a panchayat failed to settle the matter. The man had been living away from his native village with his wife and children. About a year ago, a dispute between the couple prompted his wife to leave with their children and return to her parents' home. In an attempt to reconcile the couple, a panchayat was convened on Saturday, attended by his sisters and several members of his wife's family. However, despite prolonged discussions, no agreement could be reached. After the meeting ended, the man headed home but stopped on the way to buy a rope. Once inside his house, he used it to end his life. Later in the evening, neighbours grew suspicious when he failed to respond to their calls despite the lights being on inside. When they checked the premises, they found him hanging. Police arrived shortly after receiving information, took possession of the body, and sent it for post-mortem. Station Officer Pushpraj Singh confirmed the ongoing dispute between the couple and said that efforts to contact the wife were unsuccessful as her phone was switched off. A post-mortem examination has been completed; authorities stated that an investigation would be initiated if a written complaint is filed....
