PRAYAGRAJ, Jan. 20 -- A man wanted for the theft and slaughter of three cattle in Barsanda village of Pratapgarh was injured in a police encounter on Monday morning. Naushad Qureshi, 41, from Mauaima in Prayagraj was admitted to the local medical college as he was shot in the leg. Following his interrogation, police have intensified their search for the remaining suspects. According to reports, three cattle belonging to Virendra Pratap Singh of Barsanda were stolen late on Friday night. All animals belonged to a breed whose slaughter is prohibited. They were allegedly killed in a forest area near the Bakulahi river, close to the village. Prayagraj unit of the UP STF arrested the alleged leader of a gang of robbers near Amreha on Rewa Road under the Ghoorpur police station area of Prayagraj on Monday. He had a reward of Rs 50,000 on him. According to officials, last December, Anwar and his aides attempted to rob the house of a utensil merchant in Semra Kalwana. When the family, alerted by suspicious noises, refused to open door, gang attacked them. The merchant and his daughter sustained injuries before the assailants fled.
