Lucknow trade unions joinstrike against labour codes
LUCKNOW, Feb. 13 -- More than 400 workers affiliated with 10 central trade unions and independent federations staged a protest at the Deputy Labour Commissioner's office at AP Sen Road in Charbagh here on Thursday showing solidarity to the call for nationwide strike against the four labour codes.
A meeting was held on the occasion which was presided over by Comrade Rameshwar Yadav. Rahul Mishra (CITU), B.K. Singh (AITUC), Arun Gopal Mishra (INTUC), Vipin Verma (INTUC), Ashutosh (AIUTUC) and Dr Aarti (TUCC) were prominent among those present in the meeting.
Addressing the gathering, the leaders criticised the central and state governments, alleging that the labour codes weaken minimum wages, extend working hours, dilute social security and restrict the right to form unions and strike.
They also objected to provisions that could criminalise joint worker actions.
SK Sangtani from the All India Bank Employees Association and SB Yadav from the Central Employees Association attended the protest along with leaders from nearly 30 organisations.
Anand Sharma (Uttar Pradesh Medical Representatives Association), Shivendra Singh (Railway Contract Labour Union) and Babita Kapoor, along with members of building construction workers' unions and private vehicle drivers' associations, also participated.
Around 50 farmers joined the demonstration. The unions later submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister's Office through the Additional Labour Commissioner....
