LMC explores replicationof waste-to-energy plant
LUCKNOW, Jan. 9 -- The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has begun exploring the feasibility of setting up a waste-to-energy plant in the state capital after a high-level civic delegation studied Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's solid waste-based power generation project.
Led by mayor Sushma Kharkwal, the LMC team conducted an on-site inspection of the Ahmedabad facility as part of a knowledge exchange programme to assess the technical, financial and environmental viability of replicating the model in Lucknow to tackle the city's growing garbage problem while generating clean energy.
The panel included deputy mayor Charanjit Gandhi, councillors' group leader Sushil Tiwari 'Pammi', several councillors and additional civic commissioner Arvind Kumar Rao and others.
Ahmedabad civic officials explained that the plant processes around 1,000 metric tonnes of municipal solid waste daily....
