LUCKNOW, March 21 -- A day after intensifying the crackdown on street racing and high-speed biking, city police on Friday said enforcement has been further tightened, focusing on hot spots and critical corridors to prevent fatal accidents. Joint commissioner of police (law and order) Babloo Kumar said special teams have been deployed at all identified hotspots, where barricading is being put in place to check speeding motorcycles and those fitted with illegal silencers. "Action is being taken against high-speed bikes and vehicles with unauthorised silencers," he said. He added that all station house officers and dedicated critical corridor teams have been instructed to conduct sustained checking in their respective areas. "Teams have been directed to install barriers and carry out checks at changing intervals so that such incidents do not recur. Checking is being conducted in the morning, during the day and late at night, with timings being altered regularly," Kumar said. Emphasising the need for strict enforcement,JCP said such violations often lead to serious accidents, claiming innocent lives. "Many such incidents have occurred in the past. Our effort is to ensure these are prevented in the future," he added. The stepped-up vigil follows a recent accident involving a 17-year-old teenager, which brought renewed attention to reckless riding and stunt driving in the city. In a coordinated drive earlier this week, police had seized several high-end motorcycles, including superbikes, during checks across key areas such as Hazratganj and surrounding localities. Officials said the campaign against street racing, stunt riding and illegal modifications will continue, with senior officers monitoring operations on the ground.
