Life convict flees courtroom moments after sentencing in Barabanki
AYODHYA, Feb. 8 -- A convict escaped from a Barabanki courtroom on Saturday, moments after being sentenced to life imprisonment in a murder case, police said.
Barabanki jail superintendent Kundan Kumar confirmed that the prisoner gave police personnel the slip during the proceedings and fled from the court premises.
Suraj, 50, managed to flee from the court of additional district judge Rakesh Kumar by slipping away from police personnel.
The convict, who was on bail, quietly walked towards the main door of the courtroom and escaped while preparations were underway to take him into custody, officials said. Suraj, a resident of Subeha police station area in Barabanki district, faces charges under Section 302 for murder, police said.
