Licence of Ansar's cold storage facility cancelled
PRAYAGRAJ, March 27 -- The district administration has revoked the operating licence of the cold storage owned by former minister Ansar Ahmed. The decision was taken by district magistrate Manish Kumar Verma after preliminary inspection reports from multiple departments flagged serious irregularities. The DM has also directed officials to expedite inspection reports for all cold storage units across the district.
The action follows a tragic accident that occurred on Monday afternoon at Ahmed's cold store facility in Chandapur. A portion of the structure collapsed, allegedly due to the dilapidated condition of the building.
Four labourers were killed in the incident, while more than a dozen others were injured. Ahmed, who served as a minister during the Samajwadi Party (SP) government, was arrested the next day and sent to judicial custody.
Following the accident, the DM assigned ADM (finance and revenue) Vinita Singh to conduct an inquiry. The ADM sought detailed reports from various departments, which collectively pointed to significant lapses and violations at the facility. Citing the FIR lodged against Ahmed and his subsequent arrest, DM Verma ordered the cancellation of the cold storage's licence.
He has also asked the inquiry team to finalise and submit its comprehensive report at the earliest. Additionally, a committee headed by the sub-divisional magistrate has been formed to inspect all cold storage units in the district....
