Leopard captured in Nainital's Dhari block
Rudrapur, Jan. 7 -- The state forest department on Tuesday captured a male leopard in the Paharpani area under Dhari block of Nainital district, officials familiar with the matter said.
The development comes amid intensified monitoring and rescue operations following two fatal leopard attacks in the area, they said.
"A male leopard, estimated to be around five to six years old, was trapped in a cage installed in the Paharpani area on Tuesday morning. The animal is being shifted to the Rani Bagh rescue centre," said Vijay Bhatt, ranger of the Nathuakhan forest range in Nainital district. He added that biological samples of the leopard, along with samples collected from the attack sites, were being sent to a forensic laboratory to ascertain whether the captured animal was responsible for the attacks.
The leopard is suspected to have been behind two fatal attacks in which two women were killed. The first incident took place on December 26, and the second was reported on December 30, officials said....
