LDA commissions Rs 7.5 cr pumping stn in Gomti Nagar Ext
LUCKNOW, Feb. 15 -- During every heavy rainfall, residents had to face waterlogging in Gomti Nagar Extension, particularly in Sector-4 and adjoining areas. Roads would submerge, traffic movement would halt and residents struggled to step out of their homes. Addressing the long-pending issue, the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has completed a 400-kilolitre capacity flood pumping station at a cost of Rs 7.5 crore.
LDA vice-chairman Prathamesh Kumar inspected the newly constructed pumping station near G-20 Road in Sector-4 on Saturday and directed officials to conduct thorough testing of all installed machinery. He instructed the engineering team to ensure complete operational readiness so that the station functions efficiently during the monsoon season without any technical disruption.
LDA chief engineer Manvendra Singh said the station has six pumps, each with a capacity of 60 HP. Each pump can discharge 13,000 litres of water per minute.
Once operational, the system will channel rainwater directly into the Gomti, significantly reducing the risk of waterlogging in Sector-4 and nearby localities.
Officials said the project forms part of a broader drainage strengthening plan. The LDA has also constructed three additional 400-kilolitre capacity flood pumping stations at Janeshwar Mishra Park, Cattle Colony Gaughat and near Rashtriya Prerna Sthal in Basant Kunj scheme to improve rainwater management across vulnerable zones.
During his visit, the V-C also inspected Central Park in Sector-1, where he found that the open gym equipment did not meet prescribed quality standards.
He reprimanded officials and directed them to replace the equipment within 15 days.
At Raghukul Park in Sector-4, he found horticulture work unsatisfactory and swings damaged. He ordered officials to impose a penalty on the contractor and ensure immediate rectification.
The LDA will also upgrade the library in Vipul Khand-3, currently operated by the Indian Council of Philosophical Research. Officials said the authority plans to modernise facilities and improve infrastructure for readers....
