KANPUR, Feb. 22 -- Police here have registered 12 FIRs on Saturday against guest houses and marriage lawns for playing loud music beyond permitted hours, as the city cracks down on noise pollution during the board examination season. Night-checking drives across eight police station areas led to action against establishments found flouting the 10 pm deadline for sound systems. The crackdown followed complaints from residents and parents that late-night DJ music was disrupting students' exam preparation. Joint commissioner of police Vipin Tada said prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita had already been imposed, banning loudspeakers and DJ sets after 10 pm during the examination period, covering tests by the Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad and other boards. The worst violation was reported from Bithoor, where DJ music was allegedly played until around 1 am at a lawn on Mainawati Marg.
