Knp police arrest three college faculty over alleged student beating
KANPUR, Feb. 6 -- Police here on Thursday arrested three faculty members of Maharana Pratap Engineering College in Mandhana for allegedly beating students with belts and sticks after they arrived late on campus, officials said.
The accused were produced before a court and sent to jail, while the role of other staff members is under examination.
DCP (West) SM Qasim Abidi said three faculty members have been arrested and more are being identified. "Further investigation is underway to ascertain the involvement of other staff members and action will be taken based on evidence and statements," he said.
The arrests followed a complaint by a student who alleged that teachers assaulted several male and female students during a morning session on Wednesday.
Police said at least 10 students were injured in the incident, with one female student suffering a fractured arm.
The alleged assault led to protests inside the college campus, during which students raised slogans and damaged property.
As the situation escalated, police and Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) personnel were deployed to restore order.
Police said legal proceedings are continuing and more arrests may be made as the probe progresses....
