KGMU promotion row: Govt sets up probe panel
LUCKNOW, Feb. 20 -- The Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday formed a two-member committee to investigate complaints of alleged anomalies in regularisation, promotions, and grant of service and pensionary benefits to certain personnel at King George's Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow.
The committee is headed by Kritika Sharma, special secretary, medical education department and also comprises the finance controller, medical and health department, as member. The order directs the committee to examine all aspects of the matter in detail and submit a comprehensive inquiry report to the government.
The committee is expected to scrutinise appointment records, service books, promotion orders, and pension sanction files before arriving at its conclusions.
No timeline for submission of the report has been specified in the order.

Any finding of procedural irregularity could have administrative and financial implications, particularly if pensionary liabilities were extended contrary to applicable rules.
According to an official order issued by the state medical education department, the committee will probe allegations that several employees, including an individual identified as Syed Akhtar Abbas, were appointed on an ad hoc basis but later regularised and promoted without due legal and procedural compliance.
KGMU spokesperson Prof KK Singh said the medical university administration had removed OSD Syed Akhtar Abbas nearly a month ago.
A clerical staff member has been assigned the OSD's duties.
The complaints also allege that retirement-related benefits and pensions were granted in violation of prescribed service rules.
HT has accessed the copy of the official order for the panel probe.
Meanwhile, The KGMU vice chancellor has been asked to nominate a senior officer to appear before the committee as the university's representative in accordance with the statutory framework of the KGMU Act....
