Key member of fake SIM card supply gang arrested
PRAYAGRAJ, Jan. 17 -- The Cyber Cell police arrested a key member of a gang that was supplying a large number of fake SIM cards to cyber criminals, on Friday.
A total of 353 fake SIM cards, nine cloned fingerprints, and other equipment were recovered from him.
According to the police, the gang leader is still at large. The gang operates by setting up stalls with umbrellas on roadsides to sell SIM cards and then misusing customers' biometric fingerprints to activate fake SIM cards, which they then supplied to fraudsters.
DCP Ganga Nagar Kuldeep Singh Gunawat said that three complaints of financial fraud had recently been registered on the NCRP portal.
During the investigation, the cyber police received information about a gang making fake SIM cards in Prayagraj.
On Friday, the police arrested Abhinav Bind, a resident of Rasulabad Shivkuti, near Ramjanaki temple, Ganga River Front, in Mehendauri area of the city. From him, police recovered 300 activated and 55 pre-activated SIM cards of various companies, a biometric machine, nine cloned fingerprints, three mobile phones, a bank passbook, two Aadhaar cards, two voter ID cards, a PAN card, a driving license, an ATM card, and Rs 17,070 in cash....
