VARANASI, Jan. 12 -- Kerala Women Volleyball Team defeated Indian Railways team in the women's final of the 72nd Senior National Volleyball Championship, played on Sunday at the indoor court of Sigra Stadium, whereas in men's category, the Indian Railways became the champion. The chief guest, deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, along with the president of the Uttar Pradesh Volleyball Association and deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak, and mayor Ashok Kumar Tiwari, presented trophies and medals to the winning teams. The Kerala team defeated Indian Railways 3-2 to claim the title. The Kerala team, which made a spectacular comeback after trailing, gave Railways no chance in the decisive set. The team's unity and strategic skills played a major role in Kerala's title success. Anushree, the main architect of the team's victory, overwhelmed the Railways' defense with her wristy magic and aggressive smashes. At every crucial juncture, Anushree's precise shots earned points for Kerala. Meanwhile, the defense was led by Shivapriya G. Shivapriya displayed incredible agility on the court, not only stopping Railways' fast-paced attacks but also creating opportunities for counter-attacks. The Railways men's team continued its spectacular performance, defeating Kerala in straight sets 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-19) in the final match to win the championship trophy. Throughout the match, the Railways players displayed such coordination and aggressive play that the Kerala team could not make a comeback even once. Railways captain Angamuthu, leading the team, put mental pressure on Kerala from the very first set. His powerful smashes were the turning point of the match. Rohit Kumar scored points with his excellent skills and sharpened the team's attack. George Antony thwarted Kerala's attacks by utilizing his height and timing at the net. Emil T.
