Kashi drenched in devotion and gulal
Varanasi, Feb. 28 -- With the beats of the damru, gulal filling the air and chants of 'Har Har Mahadev' echoing in the ambience, Rangbhari Ekadashi was celebrated with devotional and colourful fervour in Kashi on Friday.
It is believed that on this day, Lord Shiva brings Goddess Parvati to his abode, the Baba Kashi Vishwanath Temple, and the residents of Kashi celebrate it with gulal.

Throughout the day, devotees continued to offer abir to Baba Vishwanath and Goddess Parvati. A large number of Kashi residents and dignitaries arrived to see the movable idol. Special prayers were performed by Vachaspati Tiwari, a representative of the former Mahant family.
Thereafter, the idol consisting of all three-Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati and Lord Ganesha, was placed on a beautifully decorated palanquin. As soon as the palanquin was lifted by the members of the Mahant family, abir and rose petals began to be showered from all sides. The sound of conches started simultaneously.
With the pellet drum beats leading the way, Baba's palanquin followed behind, moving towards the Baba Kashi Vishwanath Temple. On the way, 51 kg of rose petals were showered.
The Rangbhari Ekadashi celebrations in Kashi continued from morning until evening.
