Rudrapur, Feb. 15 -- A group of Kanwariya blocked the national highway in Shimla Pistor village in Rudrapur after a bike hit one of them on Saturday, police said, adding that they withdrew after assurance of action against the biker. According to police, the group from Bandia village under Kichha police station in US Nagar was returning from Haridwar with water from the Ganga river on Saturday. As they reached Shimla Pistor village on Kichha highway, a kanwariya was injured after a bike-borne man collided with him, and subsequently fled the spot, police said, adding that in addition to the Kanwariya's injuries, he also suffered the loss of his holy kanwar. The Kanwaria group then proceeded to block the road and set the bike ablaze, said police, adding that the blockade was called for following police intervention. "We rushed to the spot and persuaded the kanwariyas to end the road jam.
