Kanpur woman held with 53 live cartridges at Lko Metro station
LUCKNOW, April 7 -- A 43-year-old woman was arrested after 53 live cartridges were recovered from her bag during security screening at Badshahnagar Metro station in Lucknow, police said on Monday.
"The incident took place late on April 5 when the woman placed a black bag on the X-ray baggage inspection system (XBIS) at the station. During scanning, security personnel noticed suspicious objects resembling ammunition on the monitor, prompting immediate intervention," stated Lucknow police in a statement.
The bag was set aside and subjected to a detailed physical inspection by security staff. "A total of 53 live and 10 used cartridges were recovered from the bag," said Mahanagar SHO AK Mishra. "The seizure included 35 cartridges of .303 bore fitted with charger clips and 18 cartridges of 9 mm calibre, along with empty shells of both calibres," he added.
The accused was identified as Pratibha Pal (43), a resident of Kanpur Nagar district. Police said she failed to produce any valid licence or documents related to the possession of the ammunition during questioning.
"Based on a complaint filed by sub-inspector Anurag Kumar Singh, an FIR under Section 3/25 of the Arms Act was registered at Mahanagar police station. The woman was taken into custody and is being questioned to determine the source of the cartridges and their intended use," the statement added.
The case comes amid heightened vigilance at metro stations following a similar incident last month. On March 30, an 18-year-old passenger was apprehended at IT Metro Station after a .315 bore cartridge was detected in his bag during routine screening. He had also failed to provide a satisfactory explanation, leading to a case being registered against him....
