PRAYAGRAJ, Feb. 6 -- The family members of history-sheeter Pappu Sonkar created a ruckus at the postmortem house on Thursday afternoon in Prayagraj, demanding a high-level probe into his death at SRN Hospital a week after he was injured in a police encounter. Senior police officials, including DCP (Trans-Yamuna) and ACP Karchhana, along with police from multiple police stations, rushed to the spot to control the situation. Sonkar, who had sustained bullet injuries during an encounter linked to a jewellery robbery case, died on Wednesday at SRN Hospital reportedly due to a heart attack before he could undergo surgery. However, his family members alleged that the encounter was staged and accused the doctors of negligence. They demanded a judicial inquiry into the circumstances leading to his death. DCP (Trans-Yamuna) Vivek Chandra Yadav received their memorandum and pacified the crowd, assuring them of a fair investigation. After the postmortem, the police handed over the body to the family. According to police, a joint team of Karchhana police and the SOG had arrested Pappu Sonkar, a resident of Sohbatia Bagh, and his nephew Arvind Sonkar on January 28 in connection with a robbery. Both had suffered gunshot wounds to their legs and were admitted to SRN Hospital. While Arvind continues to receive treatment, Pappu died on Wednesday before surgery could be performed. On Thursday, a panel of two doctors conducted the postmortem under videography. The report confirmed that Sonkar died due to a lung infection and heart attack, officials said. Following news of the commotion, DCP Vivek Chandra Yadav, ACP Sunil Singh, and forces from three police stations reached the spot. "It has been confirmed that history-sheeter Pappu Sonkar died of a heart attack. His family has demanded a judicial inquiry, and the entire matter will be investigated as per rules," the DCP said.htc...
