Javed Akhtar credits Lucknow for his foundation, critiques expensive film ticket culture
India, Feb. 4 -- Film writer, poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar shared slices from his life during a session in Lucknow commemorating the birth anniversary of Shankar Dayal Tewari at the UP Urdu Academy. The event was organised by actor-writer Atul Tewari and his family in memory of his father.
From his birth in Gwalior to growing up at his nanihal in Rudauli and dadihal in Khairabad, Akhtar reflected on how his formative years in Lucknow laid his foundation while he was a student at Colvin Talukdar College.
"By the age of eight, the real personality of a person is formed, and thereafter you only collect data. When I left Lucknow, I was 11 years old. So, whatever good or bad I have imbibed, Lucknow is responsible for that!"
Speaking on the city's culture, he said, "In Lucknow, we say 'hum' and not 'main ja raha hoon ya main jaa rahi hoon'. Hum may sound arrogant to some people, but the deeper philosophy is that it's a neutral gender, which is amazing. I keep coming here often and feel proud to say that logon mein yahan Awadh zinda hai."...
