IT dept cracks down on dairy adulteration
LUCKNOW, Jan. 21 -- In a unique enforcement-driven action linking tax evasion with public health concerns, the Income Tax Department has launched a major crackdown on dairy product manufacturers accused of adulteration and large-scale tax fraud, officials said.
The searches were conducted by the Agra Investigation Wing. Over 35 premises across Delhi, Agra, Dholpur, Kanpur Dehat, Aligarh, Sirsaganj, Dausa, Bikaner and Jodhpur were searched, involving over 200 income tax officers and staff.
Departmental sources revealed that evidence of unaccounted cash, jewellery, undisclosed transactions worth Rs.600-700 crore, bogus purchases and sales, hundi dealings, undisclosed foreign investments and false claims of input tax credit were found during the raids. htc...
