The accused, identified as Sarvesh Kumar alias Sarvesh Kumar Yadav, a native of Nawabganj, Barabanki, allegedly operated a long-running fraud racket by impersonating a state govt official, using fake identity cards, official logos on his vehicles, and a network of associates to win the victims' confidence.
According to the complaint filed by Itesh Kumar and his brother Saurabh, the accused lived as a tenant on the floor above their rented accommodation in Vinit Khand, Gomti Nagar. Believing his claims, they transferred Rs.40 lakh to various bank accounts identified by the accused. These accounts belonged to Suraj Kumar, Durgesh Kumar Verma, Jafar, Karuna Shankar, Sumit Kumar, Subham Kumar, and Dhanman Singh.
