Prayagraj, Jan. 30 -- Acting on long-standing complaints about an illegally run ultrasound facility, a health department team led by the deputy chief medical officer (CMO) raided Priyanshi Medical Centre in Durgaganj market, under Raniganj police station limits in Pratapgarh, on Thursday. Sensing the raid, the center's owner and staff fled the spot. Officials seized the ultrasound machine along with other equipment and sealed the premises. An FIR has been lodged at the Raniganj police station.A woman, requesting anonymity, told officials that she had undergone an ultrasound at the same centre a few days earlier. The doctor allegedly told her she was carrying a girl. She then visited another hospital, where she underwent an abortion. Post-procedure, the doctor there reportedly informed her that the foetus was male. Shocked and distressed, the woman filed a complaint with senior health department officials. Following this, deputy CMO Dr Azad Ahmed, accompanied by RP Singh and Akhilesh, reached Priyanshi Medical Centre on Thursday. When authorities asked the doctor to produce mandatory documents permitting the operation of the ultrasound machine, he failed to present the same.
