HC to give Hindi translation of its non-AFR judgments
PRAYAGRAJ, March 18 -- Ushering in a new era on its 160th establishment day on Tuesday, the Allahabad high court decided that the non-AFR (not approved for reporting) final judgments/orders of both high court at Allahabad and its Lucknow bench, which are delivered with effect from March 17, 2026, will now be translated into Hindi and will also be made available on the official website of the Allahabad high court.
The Allahabad high court was established on March 17, 1866.
In a move to enhance accessibility in judicial proceedings, the Allahabad high court announced that it will commence the translation of all non-AFR final judgments/orders (running into three pages or more) delivered with effect from March 17 this year by all courts in addition to the AFR judgments of the e-court as well as cases of judgments of the Supreme Court in cases arising from the state of Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh.
This initiative marks a milestone aimed at bridging language barriers for litigants, lawyers and the common people.
The translation project is being carried out by the SUVAS Cell, Allahabad and Lucknow under the patronage of the Chief Justice and the guidance of the AI-assisted legal translation advisory, e-AHCR and ILR committee.
This step will ensure that justice is not just delivered but truly understood by every citizen, regardless of linguistic background.
