HC orders punjab govt to ensure safety of RS Mp harbhajan Singh
Chandigarh, May 1 -- The Punjab and Haryana high court has directed the Punjab government to ensure safety of former cricketer and Rajya Sabha MP, Harbhajan Singh, and his family members who live in Jalandhar.
Singh, who recently quit AAP and joined the BJP along with six other MPs, moved the high court after the state government withdrew his security cover. Following the withdrawal, the Centre deputed the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) outside his residence.
AAP workers held protests outside the houses of Harbhajan Singh, Rajinder Gupta and Ashok Mittal (all RS MPs) following their switch to the BJP. The AAP workers had written "gaddar" (traitor) with spray paint on the boundary walls of their residences in Jalandhar and Ludhiana.
On a plea by Singh, the high court bench of justice Jagmohan Bansal sought response from Punjab government by May 12, while directing that "in the meantime, the respondent shall ensure that no physical injury is caused to petitioner or his family members while they are in Punjab."...
