LUCKNOW, Feb. 17 -- Expressing its displeasure over the state government filing an appeal after more than 13 years for recovery of an amount of less than Rs 25,000, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court on Monday dismissed it and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the government. The court said the government can recover this amount from the officials responsible. A single bench of Justice Prashant Kumar delivered the verdict on the second appeal filed by the district magistrate of Lakhimpur Kheri and two others on behalf of the state government. In this case, the government had purchased bricks from the defendant in 1992. Out of the total amount of this purchase, Rs 24,966.50 was not paid to the defendant, leading to the defendant filing a lawsuit in the civil court. The case was decided in the defendant's favour in 2000. Against this, the government filed an appeal before the additional district judge 16 months later which was dismissed in 2003.
