GRP rescues girl within hours of kidnapping
Kanpur, Feb. 25 -- A three-year-old girl who was abducted while sleeping beside her mother on a foot overbridge at Kanpur Central railway station late Monday was traced and rescued within a few hours after an overnight search involving multiple police teams and CCTV tracking on Tuesday, officials said.
The man who was kidnapping the child was also taken into custody.
The incident occurred on the Delhi-side foot overbridge, where the child and her mother were lying down to rest. The mother discovered the girl missing shortly after midnight and alerted the government railway police (GRP).
GRP circle officer Dushyant Singh said footage from dozens of CCTV cameras across the station was scanned through the night. A man was seen carrying the child in his arms and moving towards the exit. "Four teams were formed immediately. Alerts were flashed to adjoining railway stations and local police units. After tracking his possible route, the accused was intercepted on the road towards Haibatpur/Khairatganj. The child was recovered safely within hours of the complaint," Singh said.
The accused, identified as Raju Dhimar, resident of Jalaun, was taken into custody. During preliminary questioning, he allegedly told police he abducted the child to use her for begging. Officers said they are verifying his criminal history. htc...
