PATNA, Feb. 13 -- The state government on Thursday assured in the state assembly that the matter regarding waiver of compound interest over pending energy bills over non-payment by consumers in the state would be looked into. Energy minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav , while replying to a call attention motion, said the government would look into the suggestions by members in the House to waive off the compound interest levied on dues of consumers having not paid their bills on time. "We will look into the proposal of waiver of compound interest on bills of consumers who have dues in their bills over delayed payment of bills," said the minister. Shubhanand Mukesh of the JD(U) along with many other members had raised the issue of how consumers having not paid their bills timely owing to economic hardship or other reasons were being deprived of getting free power up to 125 units as per a scheme launched by the government from August, 2025. The members demanded that the government must bring a one time settlement scheme by waiving off the compound interest and surcharge on due arrears so that such consumers could get benefitted and also it would help the government to get revenue. The energy minister, however, said there was no proposal as such to bring a one time settlement scheme for consumers not having paid their bills on time, stating that it is not a healthy habit to delay payments of energy bills....
