Gomti Nagar cafe owner booked for sexual harassment
Lucknow, Feb. 13 -- A cafe owner in Gomti Nagar has been booked on charges of sexual harassment, blackmail and allegedly coercing women employees into flesh trade, police said on Thursday.
An FIR was lodged at Gomti Nagar police station against the accused, Jamal alias Rahul, following a complaint by a 28-year-old woman.
Police said the complainant alleged that the accused befriended her under a false identity, sexually exploited her and later blackmailed her with objectionable videos to force her into working at spa centres against her will.
She alleged that Jamal, who operated a cafe in the upscale locality, targeted women seeking employment and gradually drew them into an exploitative network. Sections related to sexual harassment, criminal intimidation and cheating have been invoked, while trafficking charges are being examined.
The woman approached police with social activists and legal counsel. Investigators sealed the cafe during inspection and seized hookahs and other items banned under local rules.
Police said statements will be recorded before a magistrate and electronic evidence examined as they verify if other women were similarly coerced....
