PRAYAGRAJ, April 28 -- A dramatic scene unfolded in a village under Phulpur Kotwali limits of Prayagraj on Monday when an 11th-grade girl climbed up a mobile tower, insisting that she be allowed to marry her boyfriend she befriended on Instagram. After nearly three hours of persuasion by police, villagers and family members, the girl was finally convinced to come down. The incident took place at Bagdaha Hawasabad village, where the minor arrived at the mobile tower on a bicycle around 2.30 pm and climbed the structure, refusing to come down unless her demand for marriage was accepted. Women returning from a religious ceremony first spotted the girl on the tower and alerted the village head, who informed the police. Soon, police teams reached the spot as a large crowd of villagers gathered. Officials tried repeatedly to calm the girl and persuaded her to think about her safety while family members were also called to the site. According to the girl, she developed a friendship with a youth from a nearby village about seven months ago through Instagram, which gradually turned into a relationship. She claimed that the young man had promised to marry her but was now backing out. However, locals said the youth had denied knowing her. After sustained counselling and assurances from her family, the girl finally climbed down safely around 5.30 pm. She was later taken to the Phulpur Kotwali police station by ambulance for questioning and counselling. Police said no injuries were reported and further action would be taken after verifying facts and speaking to both families. htc...
