LUCKNOW, Feb. 13 -- The general hospital and the department of hospital administration at Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) organised an academic programme titled "Ageing with Dignity: Navigating Geriatric Care" at Hargovind Khurana Auditorium, a press release stated on Thursday. The event, held under the aegis of the Geriatrics Society of India (UP Chapter), brought together leading clinicians and administrators to strengthen geriatric care practices. Speakers noted that while cognitive assessments, vaccinations and assistive devices are important, empathy, dignity, ethical decision-making and patient-centred communication remain central to quality elderly care. Prof RK Dhiman, director, SGPGIMS, attended as the chief guest. Guest of honour Prof Dr AK Singh delivered his address on fall prevention in the elderly, highlighting its importance in reducing morbidity and improving quality of life. Distinguished guests included dean Prof Shaleen Kumar and Prof Devendra Gupta (CMS), who spoke about institutional commitment toward developing geriatric-friendly healthcare systems. Dr Kauser Usman, professor of medicine at the KGMU, shared key perspectives on the evolving speciality. A panel discussion moderated by Dr Romil Saini, consultant psychiatrist, SGPGI, featured experts from public relations, nutrition, orthopaedics and critical care, reflecting the multidisciplinary nature of geriatric management.
