Gehlot questions Raj govt on OMR manipulation case
Jaipur, Jan. 25 -- Congress leader Ashok Gehlot on Saturday questioned the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Rajasthan government's "mysterious silence" over the alleged OMR sheet manipulation in exams held by the Rajasthan Staff Selection Board, saying nearly a week has passed since the gang was busted but the government has not issued a clear statement on the probe.
Taking to X, he wrote, "It's been a week since the SOG arrested five people from the Rajasthan Staff Selection Board (RSSB) for tampering the OMR sheets in three state recruitment examinations in 2018 to provide undue benefits to some candidates. But, the state government's silence over the matter is mysterious," Gehlot said. "Is the BJP government unwilling to ensure justice for the youth of the state?"
On Tuesday, the Special Operations Group (SOG) had busted a recruitment examination fraud involving manipulation of results in three state-level recruitment exams conducted by RSSB, arresting five accused including senior technical officials of the board. The arrests are connected to manipulation in the Supervisor (Women Empowerment) Direct Recruitment Examination-2018, Laboratory Assistant Recruitment Examination-2018 and Agriculture Supervisor Recruitment Examination-2018, in which results were tampered with to benefit selected candidates.
ADGP (Special Operations), Vishal Bansal, said the three recruitment examinations were conducted for 3,212 posts, for which around 940,000 candidates had applied. The examinations were held in 2019. The work of scanning OMR sheets and data processing for preparation of results was outsourced to a private firm, Rabhav Limited, New Delhi. Investigations revealed that after scanning the OMR sheets, employees of the firm, in connivance with RSSB officials, tampered with the original data in the system. Through forged entries, marks of select candidates were increased, resulting in the selection of ineligible candidates. When the board ordered re-scanning of the original OMR sheets, serious discrepancies were found between actual marks and final results.
