LUCKNOW, March 11 -- The first Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal under the Prime Minister's multimodal cargo terminal scheme has begun operations in the Lucknow division of Northern Railway, officials said on Wednesday.
"The terminal has been set up at Jaitipur in Uttar Pradesh and is being operated by UltraTech Cement Ltd for bulk cement handling," said Kuldeep Tiwari, Senior DCM, NR, Lucknow division.
According to railway officials, the terminal was formally inaugurated on February 26. Commercial operations began on March 11 when the first cement rake from Jabalpur arrived at the Jaitipur cargo terminal.
Senior DCM said the facility has been developed under the PM Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal Scheme and aims to improve multimodal logistics infrastructure by enhancing rail-based freight movement.
The terminal is expected to boost industrial activity in the region while making transportation of bulk materials such as cement faster and more efficient. It will also help increase the share of railways in freight transport and reduce dependence on road transport.
Authorities said the initiative will strengthen freight handling capacity and provide support to local industries and trade. The project is part of the broader PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan aimed at integrated infrastructure development across the country. Officials from Northern Railway said similar modern cargo terminals are planned in the future to further improve freight efficiency and support economic activity in the region....
