PRAYAGRAJ, April 16 -- The Special Task Force (STF) Prayagraj unit arrested Arif, who was wanted under the Gangster Act and carried a reward of Rs.50,000, on Monday night. He had been absconding for a long time, police said. The reward on him had been announced by Mehnagar police station in Azamgarh. Circle officer of STF Shailesh Pratap Singh said that a team led by sub-inspector Ranendra Kumar Singh surrounded and arrested Arif, a resident of Khaura Rasulpur in the Mubarakpur area of Azamgarh, near Bindra Bazaar-Kharihni road. During interrogation, Arif allegedly revealed that since 2022 he had been involved in illegal cow slaughter under the guise of buying and selling cattle, along with his associates. Several cases were already registered against him, Singh added. A case under the Gangster Act had been registered at Mehnagar police station against Arif and his associates, Sonu alias Javed and Pappu alias Ali Ahmad. He was wanted in connection with this case. Following his arrest, Arif was handed over to the Mehnagar police for further legal proceedings.
