PRAYAGRAJ, Feb. 9 -- Former MLC Surajbhan Karwariya, convicted in the 1996 murder case of Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Jawahar Yadav, has been granted one-month parole to attend his son Gaurav Karwariya's wedding on February 19. He is serving his sentence at Naini Central Jail in Prayagraj and will return to custody after the ceremony. Surajbhan is one of three Karwariya brothers, along with former BSP MP Kapil Muni Karwariya and former BJP MLA Udaybhan Karwariya, convicted in the murder case. The government had previously released Udaybhan, while Surajbhan has now received temporary release following approval from the government and the court. The Karwariya family has a notable political history. Udaybhan served as MLA from the Bara constituency twice, in 2002 and 2007, on a BJP ticket. Kapil Muni won the Phulpur Lok Sabha seat in 2009 on a BSP ticket. Surajbhan served as a member of the Legislative Council during the BSP government. The case dates back to August 13, 1996, when SP MLA Jawahar Pandit was returning home after visiting the Bade Hanuman Temple in Civil Lines with his driver and security guard. As their car moved from Medical College crossing towards Civil Lines, a four-wheeler began following them. At Subhash Chowk, the vehicle overtook them and attackers opened fire with AK-47 rifles and pistols in the crowded area. The firing lasted nearly two minutes. MLA Jawahar Pandit, driver Gulab, and a passerby were killed in the attack. The assailants fled towards the All Saints Cathedral area. The MLA's brother, Sulaki Yadav, lodged an FIR at Civil Lines police station, naming Shyam Narayan alias Maula Maharaj, his sons Kapil Muni Karwariya, Udaybhan Karwariya, Surajbhan Karwariya, and Ramchandra Mishra as accused....
