Former IPS officer Amitabh Thakur shifted to SGPGIMS
LUCKNOW/GORAKHPUR, Jan. 9 -- Former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Amitabh Thakur was shifted from Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College, Gorakhpur, to Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow, early on Thursday after his health deteriorated. His condition is currently stated to be stable. According to sources in the cardiology department at the PGI, while being shifted to Lucknow, his condition reportedly worsened, prompting emergency CPR. He was admitted to SGPGI around 1 am for specialised cardiac care.
Hospital sources said doctors are monitoring him continuously. The hospital authorities have so far refrained from making any official statement on his condition.
Thakur was earlier admitted to BRD Medical College after he complained of severe chest pain in Deoria district jail where he had been lodged since last month in connection with a 26-year-old industrial plot fraud case dating back to his tenure as the SP, Deoria.
His condition showed signs of improvement on Wednesday afternoon. However, late at night, he again complained of acute chest pain and breathing difficulties, prompting doctors to refer him to SGPGIMS.
Professor of medicine at BRD Medical College, Dr Raj Kishor Singh, said Thakur's health condition deteriorated after his second ECG report revealed serious abnormalities.
