PRAYAGRAJ, Jan. 17 -- A five-month-old baby boy was stolen from a children's home in Shuklapur, Pratapgarh, late on Thursday night, police said. A woman staff member has been detained for questioning. The incident took place at Balgrih Shishu, run by Ramudit Seva Sansthan under the probation department. At the time, two women were on night duty to look after five infants at the home. The matter came to light when the caretaker informed the manager, who then alerted the police. Despite searches through Friday, the baby has not yet been found. According to the manager, Kamalakant Shukla, one of the staff members, Radhika alias Reena, told police that she had gone to the washroom around 3 am when an unidentified man entered the home and fled with the baby. Police teams rushed to the spot and examined CCTV footage. The footage showed a man carrying the infant out of the premises, but his identity could not be confirmed. Inspector Subhash Yadav said a case has been registered and Radhika has been taken into custody for questioning. "Further action will be taken based on the evidence," he said. Police also said the infant had been handed over to the Child Welfare Committee by an unmarried teenage rape survivor and was later placed in the children's home. The investigation is continuing....
