First phase of census to start from April 10
Dehradun, April 9 -- The first phase of Census 2027 in the state will begin with the self-enumeration process from April 10, officials said on Wednesday.
Addressing a press conference at the Secretariat Media Centre, census secretary Deepak Kumar said the first phase, house listing and housing enumeration, will be conducted door-to-door by enumerators from April 25 to May 24 across the state.
He said a 15-day window from April 10 to April 24 has been provided for residents to complete self-enumeration through the official portal before enumerators visit their homes. "Under this facility, households can fill in their own details online by registering the name of the head of the household and a valid mobile number. The process is expected to take around 15-20 minutes and all information collected will remain confidential under the Census Act, 1948", he said.
He said district magistrates and municipal commissioners have been designated as principal census officers, while other administrative officials will function as district census officers and charge census officers for the exercise.
"The second phase of the census, population enumeration, will be conducted from February 9 to February 28, 2027. "However, for snow-bound areas in districts such as Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh and Uttarkashi, the exercise will be carried out between September 11 and September 30 this year," he said.
Officials added that the governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmeet Singh and chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami will undertake the first self-enumeration in the state on April 10.
Director of Census Operations in state, Iva Ashish Srivastava, said, "For the first time, respondents have been provided with the option to fill in their details online at their own convenience prior to the arrival of the enumerators. While enumerators will continue to visit every household in their assigned blocks,as was the practice in previous censuses, the 'Self-Enumeration' facility will serve as an additional convenience."...
