Prayagraj, April 13 -- A massive fire broke out at Hotel Awadh Inn in the Madhwapur vegetable market area on Sunday morning, causing losses estimated between Rs.12 and Rs.15 lakh. No casualties were reported as all guests and staff were safely evacuated in time. The fire erupted around 10.15 am in the restaurant section of the hotel, which has a tin-shed roof, and quickly spread across the premises. At the time of the incident, several guests were staying in the hotel. The cause of the fire is suspected to be a short circuit. The hotel is operated by Vishal Srivastava, a resident of Jhusi, and falls under the Georgetown police station area. Srivastava, who was present when the fire broke out, immediately informed the fire brigade and tried to control the blaze with staff assistance, but the flames spread rapidly. Two fire tenders rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after nearly half an hour of intense firefighting. According to the hotel owner, the fire damaged two air conditioners, two refrigerators, a deep freezer, two motorcycles, 32 sofas, 32 tables, and the false ceiling, among other items. The immediate property loss was estimated at around Rs.12 to Rs.15 lakh. Fire station officer Rajesh Kumar Chaurasia said the fire originated in the hotel's tin-shed portion.
