GORAKHPUR, Feb. 1 -- Former IPS officer Amitabh Thakur, currently imprisoned at Deoria district jail on fraud charges, was admitted to Deoria Medical College on Saturday after his health deteriorated, officials said. He is currently undergoing treatment in the surgical ward and has demanded security arrangements, citing concerns over his safety after allegedly receiving death threats while being lodged in a high-security barrack of the jail. His condition has been reported as stable. According to Dr Rahul Tripathi of Deoria district jail, Thakur complained of severe abdominal pain on Friday evening. Initial treatment was provided at the jail hospital, but he was referred to the medical college after his condition worsened. Thakur's hospitalisation came barely two hours after legal hurdles to his release were cleared earlier on Saturday. A court had declared a pending B-warrant against him as non-executable, effectively paving way for his release, as he had already secured bail in the related case. Deoria Medical College spokesperson Dr Ajay confirmed that Thakur was admitted for observation and medical investigations. "Necessary medical tests are being conducted," he said.
