Ex-IPS officer Amitabh Thakur granted bail in Fraud case
GORAKHPUR, Jan. 20 -- The district court in Deoria on Monday granted bail to former IPS officer Amitabh Thakur, observing that his continued judicial custody was not required at this stage of the case. Thakur, who is currently lodged in Deoria district jail in connection with an alleged land fraud case, is likely to be released soon after completing bail formalities, said officials.
An official associated with the prosecution said, "The court granted bail to the accused after hearing arguments from both sides. His release will take place after the completion of bail procedures."
Earlier, Thakur had failed to secure relief from a lower court, following which he approached the district court. While granting bail, the court clarified that the legal proceedings against Thakur would continue even as he remains out of jail.
During the hearing, the court noted that the investigation had progressed to a stage where further detention of the accused was no longer necessary.
Thakur was arrested on December 9, 2025, from Shahjahanpur railway station. htc...
