EMI tension led delivery man to crime
LUCKNOW, Feb. 22 -- What allegedly began as a desperate attempt to pay monthly instalment of a motorcycle bought to deliver products door to door, ended in a late-night police encounter in here wherein a 22-year-old delivery executive was arrested after he allegedly opened fire on a police team.
The accused, identified as Vivek Kumar Yadav alias Sheru Yadav, a resident of Sultanpur district, was wanted in connection with a chain-snatching incident with one Rita, wife of one Praveen Jha, a manager posted at the SGPGI branch of a public sector bank, reported earlier this week under the PGI police station limits.
According to police, an FIR was lodged on February 17 under Section 304(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) after an unidentified motorcycle-borne man allegedly snatched a gold chain from a woman in Vrindavan Yojana area while asking for delivery address.
The victim reportedly fell during the incident and sustained injuries in order to fight back the video of which also went viral.
Following the complaint, police teams were formed and CCTV footage from the area was scanned to identify the suspect and trace his movement.
"On February 20 around 11 pm, acting on a tip-off, a police team attempted to intercept a man riding a black motorcycle without a number plate near Barouli Puliya. When signalled to stop, the suspect allegedly fired at the team using a country-made pistol. In self-defence, the police retaliated during which the accused sustained a bullet injury below his left knee and was apprehended," said DCP (South) Nipun Agarwal.
He was taken to hospital for treatment and will be produced before the court after medical examination.
The police claimed to have recovered a .315 bore country-made pistol, one live cartridge, three empty shells (including two of 9mm), the snatched yellow metal chain weighing about 3.36 grams, Rs.1,700 in cash, a mobile phone and the motorcycle used in the crime.
Additional deputy commissioner of police (South) Rallapalli Vasanth Kumar said, "During interrogation, Yadav confessed that he had purchased the motorcycle on instalments and was unable to pay the EMI. He allegedly targeted the woman sitting in a deserted area."...
