PRAYAGRAJ, May 5 -- An elderly man was found dead under suspicious circumstances on Monday morning in Panwari village under the Ghurpur police station area in Prayagraj. The family alleged that it was a murder and accused his younger brother of committing the crime. The deceased has been identified as 60ear-old Ramraj Bhartiya, said police, adding that according to family members, Ramraj had an altercation with his younger brother Shobhalal, on Sunday night. The dispute reportedly escalated into a physical scuffle after Shobhalal returned home from his shop. On Monday morning, Ramraj was found dead on his cot by family members. As the news spread, villagers gathered at the scene and informed the police. SHO Dinesh Singh arrived at the spot and carried out a preliminary investigation. The police have detained two people for questioning in connection with the incident. Officials said scratches and drag marks were found on the body, though no major visible injuries were observed. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death. Police said further legal action will be taken after receiving the post-mortem report and completing the investigation. The victim has been identified as Manoj Kumar (50). Manoj Kumar sustained around four bullet injuries to his head, abdomen and legs and collapsed on the road. He was taken to Muratganj primary health centre, where doctors referred him to SRN Hospital in Prayagraj after initial treatment. Superintendent of Police, Kaushambi Satyanarayan Prajapat and DSP (Chail) Abhishek Singh reached the spot along with a field unit to collect forensic evidence. Police said prima facie inquiry with family members and villagers has not yet revealed any clear motive behind the attack. Three police teams have been constituted to investigate the case and identify the attackers. A video of the incident has also gone viral. According to police, the incident stemmed from a complaint filed by Sanskar Kesarwani, a resident of Manouri Bazaar under Pipri police station. He alleged that on Saturday night, while returning with friends from Mahgaon on a scooter, three youths on a motorcycle snatched his mobile phone and fled towards Prayagraj. Police registered a case and began searching for the suspects. During the investigation, police from the Harraipur outpost picked up three local youths for questioning. However, on Sunday night, a large crowd of villagers gathered outside the outpost and demanded their immediate release, claiming they were innocent. When police refused, the situation quickly escalated. The mob allegedly abused the outpost in-charge, engaged in heated arguments and manhandled police personnel. Armed with sticks, the crowd accused the police of beating the detained youths inside the outpost to force a confession. In open defiance of authority, the mob eventually pulled the youths out of the outpost and took them away.
