Elderly man dies after trying to stop scuffle in Deoria
GORAKHPUR, Feb. 5 -- A 56-year-old man lost his life after being brutally assaulted while attempting to intervene in a scuffle involving his son in the Madanpur area of Deoria district, police said on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Manth Gour, a resident of Som Gar village. According to police, the incident occurred on Tuesday evening when Gour's son was sent by his father to buy surti (a local smokeless tobacco product). On the way, a group of men allegedly demanded money from the youth. When he refused, they began assaulting him. Seeing his son being attacked, Manth Gour rushed to intervene. However, the assailants allegedly turned on him and punched him in the chest, causing him to lose consciousness and collapse on the spot.e was initially taken to a local primary health centre and later referred to Maharshi Devrahva Baba Medical College, where doctors declared him dead the same evening.
Station house officer (SHO) of Madanpur, Nanda Prasad, confirmed the incident and said that, based on a written complaint filed by the deceased's son, police have registered a named FIR against five accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)."Four suspects have been detained for questioning, and two accused are currently in custody. The death was caused by injuries sustained during the dispute," the SHO said.Police have deployed additional force in the village as a precautionary measure to prevent any escalation of tension.
