Rudrapur, April 2 -- The state forest department has stepped up efforts to capture a tiger suspected of killing an elderly man in Tadam village under the Salt block of Almora district the previous day, officials said on Wednesday. "We have set up camera traps and a cage to catch the problematic tiger on Wednesday. A veterinary team has also been deployed to tranquilise the tiger," said Ganga Saran, ranger of the Mohaan forest range in Almora district. According to officials, Kheem Singh Rawat (60), a resident of Tadam village, had gone to the nearby forest to collect fodder and firewood on Tuesday morning but did not return home. When he failed to return, his wife Munni Devi began searching for him along with villagers. During the search, villagers found blood stains and drag marks in the forest and later discovered the elderly man's mangled body. The villagers informed the forest department following which forest personnel reached the spot and took the body into possession."We have intensified patrolling in the area to monitor the tiger's movement," Saran said, adding that an ex gratia cheque of Rs.2.50 lakh has been handed over to the deceased's family....
