Edu dept withdraws teacher deployment for Ram Katha event
Jaipur, Feb. 4 -- The Rajasthan education department has withdrawn an order appointing five teachers to volunteer for the arrangement of a 'Ram Katha' event at a temple in Bundi following criticism from the Opposition, who raised the issue in the state assembly on Tuesday.
The order was issued on Monday, appointing the teachers to assist in organising the programme at the Shree Ambika Mata Mandir in Bansi.
"As per the requirement raised by the Bansi Panchayat Samiti (Nainwa) on January 31, we are hereby appointing these teachers from February 2 to February 7 for the successful arrangement of a nine-day-long social and religious event along with Ram Katha at the Shree Ambika Mata Mandir in Bansi," the order issued by Bundi's Nainwa chief block education officer (CBEO) Anil Goyal had said.
The five teachers included a lecturer, two secondary teachers, a physical education instructor, and a basic computer instructor from four higher secondary level schools under the Nainwa block.
The order further added: "The principals of these schools are hereby directed to immediately release those teachers for the aforementioned period for the successful conduction of the religious programme."
The directive triggered a backlash from opposition parties, with Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasra raising the issue in the assembly on Tuesday.
During the debate on the Governor's address, a heated exchange broke out between Dotasra and education minister Madan Dilawar.
Dotasra accused the minister of "ruining the education system" and said teachers were first deployed for chasing dogs and later assigned duties at 'Ram Katha' events.
He alleged that enrolment in government schools had declined sharply, claiming a drop of around 175,000 lakh students, further criticising the government for carrying out transfers mid-session.
The Congress leader also brought up the issue of paper leaks, saying that safeguarding students' futures should be a collective responsibility rather than a political blame game....
