Donor in ICU, probe widens
KANPUR, April 1 -- A kidney donor and recipient linked to the alleged transplant have been shifted to the ICU of LLR Hospital, with police saying the donor is not yet in a condition for detailed questioning.
Ayush, the donor, and Parul, the recipient, were moved from private hospitals as a precaution. "The donor is in the ICU. We have not been able to question him extensively," a police officer said.
Investigators said after the surgery, alleged broker Shivam Aggarwal transferred Rs 3.75 lakh to Ayush, of which Rs 2.75 lakh allegedly went to Ahuja Hospital and Rs 25,000 to Medlife Hospital as commission. Police said Ayush was initially offered Rs 6 lakh, but the deal allegedly rose to Rs 60 lakh.
Police recovered Rs 1.75 lakh cash and medicines during raids. CCTV recorders have been seized, while deleted mobile data is being retrieved.
Investigators identified Dr Rohit as the alleged surgeon, assisted by doctors from Meerut. The transplant involving a South African woman was allegedly conducted on March 3. Police are searching for several suspects as the probe continues. htc...
