Display of rare magazines: Revisiting history through 'Dastavez-2.0'
Lucknow, March 10 -- In 1967, the news about cow-protection activists attacking the Indian Parliament was prominently reported in The New York Times Magazine.Apart from this, several other prominent magazines are on display at Kala Srot Art Galley as part of an exhibition 'Dastavez 2.0' that began on Sunday.
The exhibition presents a fascinating world of rare magazines curated through 'The Lost Library'. It is based on the personal collection of Indian Revenue Service officer Suboor Usmani, who has a deep passion for preserving magazines. His grandfather was a freedom fighter, and the treasures he preserved are still part of this remarkable collection.
The exhibition showcases magazines ranging from 1925 to the new millennium, including special issues on India's independence in 1947 and major global events such as the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Among the highlights is a rare issue of Time Magazine featuring Bollywood actress Parveen Babi on its cover-making her the first Indian actress to achieve this distinction. Also on display are the special cover released by Dharmyug to mark 75 years of Indian cinema.
Highlighting the political climate of the era, the exhibition also features a 1965 issue of Time Magazine published after the death of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, titled "India Without Nehru." Right beside it is another magazine covering the India-Pakistan conflict with the headline "Shastri vs Ayub."
Suboor Usmani said that he possesses a collection of around 1,000 rare magazines, out of which 75 selected copies have been displayed in this exhibition. The exhibition will remain open to the public until March 11....
