VARANASI, Jan. 13 -- The demolition of buildings for the widening of the Dalmandi Road here began on Monday. Amid some protests, bulldozers entered from the direction of the Chowk police station in the morning. The operation began in the presence of police, administration, and PWD teams. A large number of security personnel were deployed as a precautionary measure. When the bulldozer arrived to demolish the shops in Dalmandi, a few shopkeepers protested, standing in front of their buildings. One of them said the administration told him that the map was not approved and his building was not built as per the standards.
