Kanpur, Feb. 20 -- A police raid in Kidwai Nagar has exposed a well-organised "degree mafia" operating across nine states. Four men were arrested for allegedly producing and selling forged marksheets and certificates from 14 universities, while five others - including alleged kingpins Ravi alias Manish of Hyderabad and Vineet of Ghaziabad - remain absconding. The action followed a tip-off during routine patrolling linked to UP Board examination duties. Police raided the first-floor office of "Shail Group of Education" near the Gaushala intersection, which was operating without valid registration. According to Commissioner of Police Raghubir Lal, the syndicate created counterfeit high school and intermediate marksheets of the UP Board, along with fake degrees, provisional and migration certificates. Forged seals and fabricated registration numbers were used to replicate documents of institutions including Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur, Lingaya's University, and universities in Manipur and Sikkim.
