CyberKnife boost for cancer care in Lko
India, Feb. 4 -- Lucknow: The inauguration of an advanced CyberKnife facility at the Kalyan Singh Super Speciality Cancer Institute is set to significantly cut the need for patients to seek treatment outside Uttar Pradesh. The state-of-the-art system was unveiled on Tuesday by director Prof. M.L.B. Bhatt in the presence of senior faculty and officials. CyberKnife system allows highly precise radiation delivery to tumors, making it especially effective for treating complex and inoperable cancers.
"This technology enables targeted treatment without surgery, requires fewer sessions, and minimises damage to surrounding healthy tissue," said Professor MLB Bhatt.
Medical superintendent Dr. Varun Vijay said that the CyberKnife unit will undergo mandatory testing and regulatory clearance from the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) before becoming operational. "The approval process is expected to take around two to three months, after which patient treatments will commence," he said.
The Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at King George's Medical University played a key role in lung cancer diagnosis and treatment through advanced bronchoscopy, EBUS-guided procedures, image-guided interventions and multidisciplinary care, said Prof Ved Prakash during a media interaction ahead of World Cancer Day on February 4.
